Tollcross Aquatic Centre
Architect: Glasgow Life
Tollcross International Swimming Centre has been fully refurbished to become one of the UK's most elite training facilities. Tollcross will host the swimming competitions during the 2014 Commonwealth Games and forms the foundation of Glasgow's bid for the Youth Olympics.
The £13 million project has seen the completion of a brand new 50-metre, six lane training pool as well as the retiling of the existing 10 lane Olympic-grade spectator pool. The site is now of world-class standard and able to accommodate the vast number of spectators expected to arrive for the 2014 games. The amount of permanent seating in the arena doubled to 2000 with space for another 3000 temporary seats being provided especially for the Games.
There are various safety considerations taken into account when constructing public swimming centres. DOMUS specification consultants and technical team members worked closely with the architects to ensure the materials met the high safety standards required for this type of project. DOMUS provided numerous materials for Tollcross. DOMUS' popular keystones, bold color, Il Grano and Interni collections as well as the specially sourced Royale and Piscine ranges were all used in the Tollcross design. Blue polythylene gratings were also designed to specification by the Domus technical team. For more information you can download our swimming pools brochure.
